Exodus is ever-present throughout history. Even today, people flee, populations merge, and nothing stays in one place for very long. My inspiration comes from ancient iconographies where the boat had a ritual role, as a means of crossing from one life to the other, as in Egyptian funerary boats.

Exodus | Bronze, iron, cloth | 26 boat sculptures (13 boats: 90/120 x 130 x 40 cm; 10 boats: 180/210 x 230 x 80 cm; 3 boats: 210 x 500 x 135 cm) | 2024

A New Kind of Art and History Experience

This exhibition, set against the stunning backdrop of the Pyramids, is unlike a traditional museum visit. Instead of just viewing artifacts, visitors are encouraged to connect with the past through art installations that explore themes of archaeology, ancient symbols, and Egypt’s long history. Artists from around the world have contributed to this event, bringing new interpretations to ancient stories and making history feel fresh and accessible.

For travelers planning to visit Egypt in 2024, this exhibit is a great addition to a classic tour of Cairo and Giza. It's perfect for those who want to go beyond sightseeing, offering a chance to see ancient history through a modern lens.

Highlights of the Exhibition at Giza

We Will Meet Again in the Sky is a sculpture installation that intricately intertwines with the essence of ancient Egyptian mythology and the sacred landscape of the Giza Plateau. Through the portrayal of avian figures in a mesmerising swarm, Singer channels the divine symbolism deeply rooted in Egyptian cosmology, where gods and spirits are often depicted as anthropomorphic beings closely connected to natural elements. In ancient Egyptian belief systems, birds held profound significance as symbols of transcendence, freedom, and divine communication. The choice of avian forms in Singer’s installation not only pays homage to this rich iconography but also evokes the spirit of ancient deities such as Bennu, associated with rebirth and the sun. This collective behaviour reflects the interconnectedness of all living beings, mirroring the divine order believed to govern the natural world by ancient Egyptians. By situating the installation within the sacred precincts of the Giza Plateau, Singer forges a direct link between his artistic vision and the enduring legacy of ancient Egyptian civilisation.

In the Vishnu Purana, a lotus emerges out of the navel of a blue god and marks the creation of the universe. In Egypt, a blue lotus flower at the beginning of time arose out of primeval waters to connect the heavens to the earth. These ancient civilisations of the Nile and the Indus are connected by one symbol rising out of primeval waters: the Lotus.Padma is an oasis of lotus flowers that bring this prophecy to life, consisting of 10 brass lotuses handmade by artisans in the deserts of India. It uses pulse sensors to visualise one’s heartbeat and invites people to synchronise their hearts. Padma is the first installation by an Indian artist at the Pyramids of Giza.Padma/Pulse and Bloom | Acrylic, gold-plated brass leaves on cotton, wooden base | 10 lotuses ranging from 3 m to 4.2 m in height; wooden base: 8 x 4 m | 2024
